WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKE-UP?

Permanent make-up is also known as Permanent Cosmetics, Medical Micropigmentation, or Intradermal Cosmetics. Micropigmentation is the implantation of specially formulated pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. Our procedures are performed with a standard tattoo method using a rotary machine. The rotary machine is gentler on the sensitive skin areas than a traditional coil tattoo gun. However, unlike with decorative tattoos, the objective is a very subtle enhancement of facial features that looks as natural as possible. With no smearing or smudging, permanent make-up can actually be more natural & realistic in appearance than conventional cosmetics. When done properly, the end result of permanent cosmetics ranges from a subtle, natural appearance to a slightly more dramatic, professionally applied make-up effect.

WHAT KIND OF PERMANENT MAKE-UP PROCEDURES DO YOU DO?

Typically, procedures are done on the eyebrows, eyes and lips. However we can also add beauty marks, camouflage certain types of scars, and repigment areolas.

Changing the shape, fullness & definition of the eyebrows emphasizes & lifts the eyes, frames the face, & adds balance & symmetry. Adding permanent eyeliner makes lashes appear fuller & thicker. Subtle definition is added, making eyes appear larger & more striking. Lips can be made to appear fuller & more defined, adding youth and sensuality.

CAN I HAVE MORE THAN 1 PROCEDURE ON THE SAME DAY?

Yes, there is usually no problem having as many procedures as you like done at the same sitting. Having multiple areas done on the same day will save you time & money. This can actually be beneficial because you can also have any touch ups that you may need done at the same time.

WHAT IS A GOOD AGE TO HAVE PERMANENT MAKE-UP PROCEDURES DONE?

It is never too late or too early to enjoy permanent make-up. Whatever your age, permanent make-up can eliminate that dreaded washed out look we all hate. At any age you will wonder how you were ever able to get along without it before having it.

WILL IT STILL LOOK GOOD AS YOU GET OLDER & THE SKIN CHANGES?

As long as you look good with make-up, you will look good with permanent make-up! We don’t believe there is any age where you need to stop using make-up. If you’re concerned the permanent make-up may look a little too dark on you in the future, don’t worry. Remember, permanent make-up will get lighter with time.

HOW IS THE COLOR SELECTED?

Pigment colors are usually selected by a client requesting a certain color for the particular procedure that is being performed. It is also important to take into consideration the expertise of the Micropigmentologist doing the permanent make-up. They can give you a professional opinion on what color would look best with your skin tones & hair coloring. A mutual agreement is reached on the color, shape, size, position, symmetry, & placement before beginning the procedure.

WILL PERMANENT MAKE-UP LOOKED SMUDGED AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME?

One of the reasons permanent cosmetics is so popular is because it does keep its color & shape & will last for years. That is why women who have had permanent make-up procedures always say they wouldn’t trade their permanent make-up for anything.

ARE PERMANENT COSMETICS SAFE?

Absolutely. All the pigments are made of natural minerals that are specifically selected for their safe, non-toxic & hypo allergenic properties. They are trusted by permanent make-up technicians & cosmetic surgeons throughout the world. Reactions to semi-permanent/permanent cosmetics are extremely rare.

IS THE PROCEDURE SAFE?

Yes, the procedure is done under strict sterilization rules. All procedures are applied with high quality, sterile single use needles & needle covers. We follow strict sanitation & sterilization guidelines as required by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention, OSHA regulations, & the Oklahoma Department of Health. Sterilization & hygiene are of the utmost importance before, during & after the treatment. Permanent make-up related accidents are extremely rare & we have never had any. And the procedures are done under the supervision of a doctor.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY APPOINTMENT?

The appointment takes about 2 to 2 ½ hours with paperwork, consultation, photos, anesthesia, & the application procedure. The process includes the initial consultation to discuss & demonstrate the most flattering style, shape, placement & color. After a mutual decision & adjustments are made for the final appearance, you will be pre-numbed/ numbed for your procedure. The actual procedure will take 35 minutes to 1 ½ hours, depending on the treatment type. Follow up/Touch-Up procedures should not take as much time as the initial application.

DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?

Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the benefits far outweigh any discomfort you may experience. Our permanent cosmetic procedures are done under topical and/or local anesthesia injections, depending on the area of application. Some clients feel no sensation at all, some say it tickles, & others feel mild discomfort. Often clients report feeling nervous or anxious at first, but once the procedure is started they soon realize that it was nothing to be worried about or afraid of. If you think you will be nervous, twitchy, or reactive to work close around, you may consider asking your physician for a one time dose of anti-anxiety medication. Some clients also get a prescription pain med at the same time. You would of course then need a driver to take you home from your appt.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

You could have some tenderness, swelling, redness or bruising in the treated area. The swelling usually subsides within 48 hours & can be reduced by using cold packs. Your permanent make-up will appear darker, brighter and slightly thicker at first. The color will lighten & blend with your skin after healing. During the first few days after the application, your skin will develop a scab, become flaky, or dry. The preliminary healing process takes about 3-7 days, depending on the area. You will not want to pick or peel the treated areas! It is crucial to follow the aftercare instructions for optimal results.

HOW SOON BEFORE I CAN RESUME NORMAL ACTIVITIES?

For many people, often the same day, as long as the activities do not adversely affect the healing process. You wouldn't want to introduce bacteria into the treated area, for example, by swimming or by sweating while exercising or doing yard work. Most people prefer not to make any social plans for several days after having permanent make-up, because it's a new look, will have swelling & it will be darker than the final outcome. If you are having an Eyeliner procedure, you will most likely have bruising as well. You won’t be able to wear make-up on the procedure area the first few days. It is also important to avoid sun & tanning beds as well as pools & hot tubs for at least 5-7 days.

IS INFECTION POSSIBLE?

Even with a minor scratch, infection is possible. Although there is always a risk of infection, it is relatively low, compared to other procedures. As long as you keep the area clean & follow your aftercare instructions, there should be no major complications.

IS THERE A CHANCE OF ALLERGIC REACTION?

As with any treatment an allergic reaction is always a possibility, however this is extremely rare & almost unheard of. In fact, some doctors recommend that people with allergies get permanent cosmetic procedures to avoid the use of the conventional cosmetic products that they are sensitive to. A consultation will be carried out prior to any procedure & a medical form will be filled out & discussed with your practitioner.

A patch test is offered, upon request, with the chosen pigment to reduce the chance of an unexpected allergic reaction. But please keep in mind that you can develop an allergy to anything at any time. If you are concerned about an allergic reaction, or have had odd allergies in the past, a patch test is highly recommended. The patch test must be done at least 48 hours prior to the micropigmentation procedure.

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Micropigmentation lasts a long time! You should consider it permanent, as the pigment will always remain in the upper section of the dermis, however over time the color will fade as the skin rejuvenates. The darker the color, the longer it will stay unchanged in your skin. Natural, delicate colors are oftentimes more vulnerable to the effects of sun, changing health conditions, medications, anti-aging products, hormonal changes, & breakdown by the body’s natural response. You will want to freshen up your permanent make-up every few years. Although some people like to have their makeup touched-up every 1 to 2 years to keep their color defined & vibrant. As you become accustomed to your new make-up, it’s not uncommon to want more!

ARE TOUCH-UPS NECESSARY?

Permanent make-up procedures are multisession processes. Touch-Ups can be necessary for several reasons. One is due to the condition of the skin & your body chemistry & the colors selected for the treatment area. Each person’s skin can be very different & some will retain more pigment in one session. Fine details, additional color, depth or dimension, or design adjustments are easily made after the initial healing is complete. A follow-up/Touch-Up visit is usually scheduled within 4-12 weeks of your first procedure. You will want to Refresh your new make-up every few of years as it will lighten over time. 1 Touch-Up is included with your Permanent Make-Up procedure. Any subsequent Touch-Ups or Maintenance Color Refreshers needed are offered to you at a reduced price as a returning client.
